"I Love You But I'm Lost", a non-album single, was released on October 12, 2017, which was then followed by a new best-of compilation on Novemcalled Rule the World, which featured sixteen tracks, including two new songs, which are the aforementioned single, and "Stay". The duo released the reunion album Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, which picked up where Seeds left off. After their breakup, Roland Orzabal would release two essentially solo albums under the band's name (with collaborators Alan Griffiths and Tim Palmer co-producing and providing additional instrumentation, alongside several other musicians on Raoul and the Kings of Spain Griffiths also co-wrote most of the songs on these albums) before Smith rejoined the group. The Seeds of Love came about in 1989, and was a lot more experimental, psychedelic, and rockier than the previous albums, although it did spawn a couple of hits ("Sowing the Seeds of Love" and "Woman in Chains"). Second was the aforementioned Songs from the Big Chair. First there was The Hurting in 1983, which sounds more like an angst-ridden Depeche Mode album this is where the single "Mad World" came from, which later got a more popular cover version by Gary Jules that was used on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Of course, many fans over at their Last.FM page would have you believe otherwise, and, to be fair, those three are far from the band's only songs to get radio airplay their other well-known hits include "Mad World" (which has probably become as well known as the three tracks above), "Pale Shelter", "Change", "Sowing the Seeds of Love", "Woman in Chains", "Advice for the Young at Heart", "Break It Down Again", and "Closest Thing to Heaven".īesides Songs from the Big Chair, Orzabal and Smith did release three other albums. Rumi, a 13th century Sufi mystic, taught (among other things) the concept that each of us has been separated from a single divine source and the primary goal of our lives is to return to it. Upon further investigation, I learned the lyrics were somewhat of a homage to Rumi’s poem “No Room For Form” (below). I was always confused about the lyrics (and even think I brushed them off as just referencing sexuality) but still the feeling of the song resonated with me. I think it was on the same EP that I discovered this track, “Staring At The Sun”, as well. TV On The Radio first gripped me with the single “Wolf Like Me” somewhere around 2005-2006. “This achievement shows that Airbus and all its French partners are fully dedicated to developing new areas of dedication with India,” Macron said during the online event. This fleet will propel the airline globally where it deserves to be – with the best,” says Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International. We are thrilled and humbled to see these aircraft become the cornerstones of Air India’s renaissance. “We salute Air India for its visionary strategy, picking the two reference aircraft types in each of their categories. Today, civil aviation is an integral part of India’s growth,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the online event.ĭuring the online briefing, Modi also highlighted that Air India’s major deal is a part of India’s efforts to enhance its aviation industry and position the country as a hub for maintenance and repair operations in the region. “This important deal shows, along with the deepening of relations between India and France, the successes and aspirations of the civil aviation sector in India. India is well on its way.” Guillaume Faury, Airbus Chief Executive Officer “The time is right for India to turn into an international hub. “We are committed to building a world-class airline … one of the most important things is a modern fleet which is efficient and can perform for all routes.” Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran The A320neos will be deployed on domestic and a handful of short-haul international routes, whereas the A350 will be used to “fly ultra-long routes across the globe.” The commitment includes 140 A320neo and 70 A321neo single-aisle aircraft as well as 34 A350-1000 and six A350-900 wide-body jets. In September last year, Air India’s new chief executive Campbell Wilson stated that the carrier has exciting expansion and renewal plans to revive its reputation as a world-class airline. The Indian flag carrier signed a letter of intent to purchase 210 A320neo family aircraft as well as 40 A350s, as the carrier paves a way for a decades-long transformation under its new owners. The deal also includes an order for 220 Boeing planes plus 70 options. Air India announced an order for 250 Airbus jets, reportedly as part of a mammoth deal for 470 planes from Airbus and Boeing. They just spring up from somewhere and shoot at you, or go kamikaze in your direction. Enemies behave unpredictably, but not intelligently. As we face hordes and hordes of enemies, it is to be expected to take some damage, but in this case the creatures pop up from every direction, so that you cannot move properly (strafing is almost pointless here). While the gameplay is simple, there’s the potential to cause any sane mind to rage quit: the game’s difficulty is very unfair. This gives him a likable personality, and helps to alleviate the tension during the relentless gameplay. He is a badass dude with big guns, and the difference between him and other protagonists is that he talks a lot, with jokes and complaints about the dreadful situations he has to face in the game, like going into the sewers. Sam Stone is the cliché male protagonist with a deep and sarcastic voice and one liners, and he was inspired by the protagonists of classics Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior. The premise is that simple – not really developed and a bit embarrassing, but it does the job. To aid you in this quest you’ll have a British accented computer/companion entity telling you what to do, and you’ll meet up with some aliens tribes to fight back the alien invasion. In order to do that, he must travel between different worlds and collect pieces of a medallion, until the final battle. In this game, our hero, Sam ‘Serious’ Stone, has to defeat an extraterrestrial enemy called Mental. Serious Sam 2 is available on PC via Steam. It’s truly admirable and adds an overall sense of rebellion to the series. It is important to highlight that Croteam created the game’s engine (inspired by Doom), and it’s pretty impressive to see how it handles so many entities on screen without lagging or crashing. Hence, we have the background for the Serious Sam series, games meant to be focused on the fun action of shooting monsters and making things go boom.Įven though the game reviewed here is called Serious Sam 2, it is the third installment in this series, taking place after Serious Sam: the Second Encounter. As the industry progressed, we started to have games with more emphasis in the story and delving into different moods, and some people didn’t quite like this kind of change. Of course the reason of any game to exist is to provide a new way for the player to interact with the world, but in the mid 90’s and early 2000’s, things were simpler and more limited. Games like Blood, Doom, Quake, Hexen and the ones alike were extremely popular, and provided a platform to when people feel at least in control of something. Combining over the top and merciless gameplay with a keen sense of the absurd, it is the sort of guilty pleasure you don’t like to admit you have.ĭuring the so called ‘Golden Age of First Person Shooters’ we had pretty hardcore games with merciless gameplay, in which the main goal of making the player feel badass. In many ways it is completely hideous, but it became almost a time capsule of the time it was created. This game is a piece of video game history. It’s now available on Steam and it runs pretty well on Linux. All man.' give Serious Sam 3: BFE a punt.Serious Sam 2, released in 2005, was developed by Croteam and released to Windows and Xbox. But if you felt even vaguely like fist-pumping upon hearing the tagline 'No cover. The return of Serious Sam's most familiar weapons and enemies, at the expense of much new content, will just as likely leave you exhausted as elated. It's left to some swanky new particle effects to impress us. There's little beauty in the visuals though, somehow greyer and less expansive than 2005's second Sam. There are a few moments of beautiful design: the occasional genius placement of a surprise onslaught of kamikaze soldiers, the triggering of a shrewd mousetrap. A heavily templated and mazelike series of levels into which the meatpaste of Serious Sam's sublime and pure death arcade has been pumped. Survival mode is a distillation of the form, pitting you and (if you like) co-op buddies against waves of increasingly tough enemies in one of two arenas.ĭespite introducing a Duke Nukemlite plot as shlocky as it is charmless, the singleplayer campaign feels like a lingering, grudging concession. That is, this whole thing called ‘simplification’ actually made things more complicated in the end because we never really stuck to the KISS principle. Without this awareness and commitment, opportunities for simplification may be missed, and individuals may view simplification as a ‘buzz word’ rather than a way to drive better performance and improve organisational effectiveness. How many times have you seen a very simple communication become burdened with the ‘extra’ layers of subtext and disclaimers? Often stakeholders contaminate an elegant solution by adding extra layers of complexity that add minimal value. For instance, adding more procedures to make a process ‘easier’ can sometimes have the opposite effect. Third, leaders need to resist theurge to compromise. Second, leaders must put in place tangible initiatives that are prioritised and be willing to drive them through. That is, they must mentally be focussed on simplification and be aware of what it is and the benefits it provides. In an earlier blog, post 8 principles of simplification were described, and organisations can use these to help diagnose their most common areas of complexity.Īfter conducting this assessment, here are some specific practices that can encourage simplification amongst employees and the design of work.Īs a first step, leaders need to adopt a simplification mindset. So how can organisations implement the principle of KISS? No, not by painting your face in crazy black and white make-up (pardon the dated KISS rock band reference).īefore leaders embark on any simplification activity, they can first assess the system of work. You will be hard-pressed to find a better network scanner for Android than ezNetScan. Once a scan is complete, ezNetScan allows you to email the results of the scan as well as the results from any commands run. IP Tools is free but you can purchase to remove ads or purchase the Premium version of the app (which removes the ads and gains you access to their development program). But if you need an all-in-one toolbox for testing your LAN, you would be remiss in not trying IP Tools. The only caveat is that IP Tools is a bit slower than some of the other apps. You can also gain quick access to device web pages (such as routers and servers) with a quick tap of the menu button. Features include detailed information about network and devices, detect by IP, port/network scanning, ping/traceroute/whois tools, an IP calculator, Wake on LAN, and DNS lookup. IP Tools ( Figure D) is a powerhouse toolkit for any network administrator having to work on a mobile device. Network Scanner is free and offers an in-app purchase to remove the unobtrusive ads. You can switch between ping and DNS request scan modes, set a custom IP scan range, specify an IP address for scanning, share the results of your scan (via the built-in Android share system), and change nicknames of devices. Network Scanner ( Figure C) doesn’t offer the best looking interface, but it makes up for that in ease of use. Net Scan is free, doesn’t have any ads, and the only in-app purchase is for donations to the developer. Net Scan doesn’t include any other tools, but for a quick network and port scan, this app is hard to beat. You can do either a quick port scan or a regular port scan (which allows you to specify ports to scan on a device). Once a network is discovered, you can issue a port scan on any listed device with just a couple of taps. The discovery will report name, IP address, MAC address, and device vendor (if available). Net Scan ( Figure B) is another network mapping and port scanning tool. Fing is free, but it does allow you to connect to a Fingbox account, where you can view your discovered networks anywhere. Once a network has been discovered, it is saved and can even be backed up to an SD card. With Fing you can search attached devices by name, IP address, MAC address, Name, Vendor, and Notes. You can also run pings and traceroutes, perform DNS lookups, run a TCP connection tester, and even use Wake on LAN. But it doesn’t stop with just reporting the discovered devices. Fing will report IP address, name, and MAC address of each device found. Unlimited devices can be detected on an unlimited number of wireless networks. 1: Fingįing ( Figure A) offers one of the fastest ways to find out what devices are connected to your wireless network. The Android ecosystem offers plenty of tools for network administrators. A network scan is a must and, fortunately, Android can comply. Out of nowhere your network can go five shades of wonky and you are at the other end of your campus–and the only tool you have on hand is your Android device. These days, Stuart, who Rolling Stone calls “one of the world’s foremost country experts and archivists,” has roughly 20,000 pieces in his collection, including a handwritten copy of Hank Williams’ “I Saw The Light” and Johnny Cash’s first black performance suit. The first piece he picked up? Patsy Cline’s makeup kit, which he bought from a junk shop for $75. Stuart emerged as an unofficial caretaker of the culture, too, spending much of his career rescuing and collecting country music artifacts from throughout the genre’s history. “If country music had a president, it would be Marty Stuart,” famed documentarian Ken Burns once proclaimed. Though Stuart built his early reputation backing up country and bluegrass royalty, it wasn’t long before Nashville recognized him as a star in his own right, and over the course of forty-plus years as a solo artist, he would go on to release more than twenty major label albums, scoring platinum sales, hit singles, and just about every honor the industry could bestow along the way. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Mississippi, he landed his first big gig in Lester Flatts’ band at the tender age of thirteen, and by twenty-one, he was working on the road and in the studio with Johnny Cash. It’s the human condition, and if you’re honest about it and you’ve got a real band around you, you can make something that’s uniquely yours and stands the test of time.”Ī Country Music Hall of Famer, five-time Grammy Award-winner, and AMA Lifetime Achievement honoree, Stuart knows a thing or two about standing the test of time. “The beautiful thing about country music is that the blueprint Jimmie Rodgers laid down-rambling, gambling, sin, redemption, Heaven, Hell-it’s all just as relevant now as it ever was. “I’ve always loved songs that feel like old friends but still sound new and fresh,” says Stuart. It would be easy for an artist as accomplished as Stuart to rest on his laurels at this point in his career, but Altitude instead showcases the work of a searcher with an insatiable appetite for growth and reflection, one whose ambition, much like his keen wit and rich imagination, only seems to grow with each and every release. There’s a desert flare to the music here, a sweeping, spacious feel that conjures up wide-open horizons and endless stretches of two-lane highway, and the production is raw and cinematic to match, tipping its cap both to Bakersfield and Laurel Canyon as it balances jangle and twang in equal measure. Recorded in Nashville with his longtime band, The Fabulous Superlatives, the collection finds Stuart picking up where he left off on 2017’s Way Out West, exploring a cosmic country landscape populated by dreamers and drifters, misfits and angels, honky-tonk heroes and lonesome lovers. “Sometimes that lines up with what’s going on out there in the world, sometimes it takes the world thirty or forty years to catch up, but if you’re true to your heart, that’s all that matters.”Īltitude, Stuart’s exhilarating new album, is proof of that. “You have to make the music that’s in your heart,” says Marty Stuart. |
